Report
A CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor) report on branchless mobile banking, opening with the experience of Tameer Microfinance Bank in Pakistan as it sought to reach rural customers without costly physical branch infrastructure. Drawing on research showing poorer people are often more likely than wealthier ones to adopt mobile financial transactions given their more limited access to formal banking, branches and ATMs, the report examines the practical challenges — from agent networks for cash access to usable mobile menu design — that have caused many mobile banking projects to stall or fail, and what banks need to get right to succeed.
