Project
HIV Confidant is a system built by Dimagi in 2003 to deliver HIV test results confidentially using handheld computers, developed for a population-based HIV surveillance project run by the Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Running on Palm and Handspring handhelds, it let around 45,000 tested adults collect their results confidentially at a counselling point of their choosing, without needing a second blood draw, while keeping results securely stored and inaccessible without the subject’s active participation. The Africa Centre reported that the system worked well in practice and proved a productive collaboration with Dimagi.
