Fiji’s rural telephone users will from midnight on 14th June, 2007 bridge the digital divide after Telecom Fiji Limited launched its SMS texting services on EasyTel, its wireless fixed phones. The service which largely targets rural customers, would allow them to use their EasyTel phones to text another EasyTel or mobile locally or internationally, the company said. TFL acting chief executive officer Taito Tabaleka says texting has proven very popular with customers of today. He says TFL has been testing this facility on their EasyTel network for sometime. “So you are now texting from a fixed unit at home for a cheaper price.”
