Report
M-DOK is a UNDP-funded pilot that developed a mobile telehealth and information system to let community health workers in a rural part of the Philippines transmit patient diagnosis and treatment data to a remote physician. Built around a Java-enabled mobile phone using SMS, the system stores and forwards electronic patient records and health information modules, and was designed to be low-cost and scalable for settings with little or no GPRS coverage. Piloted with the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development in a rural community in Lanao del Norte, the project also developed a mobile encryption method to keep patient data secure.
