Report
The executive summary and findings of a W3C workshop on the role of mobile technologies in fostering social and economic development, held in Maputo, Mozambique in April 2009 and organised by the W3C Mobile Web for Social Development Interest Group under the EU FP7 Digital World Forum project. More than 70 participants concluded that SMS remained the most accessible mobile technology for NGOs and grassroots groups despite literacy and richness limitations, that voice applications were gaining attention as a more natural but under-resourced alternative, and that mobile browsing was emerging as a viable route to richer content where reliable GPRS was available.
