Mobile Power

Article

A BBC News report on GSM Association efforts to extend mobile coverage in the developing world by powering base stations with solar energy and biofuels instead of costly diesel generators. GSMA’s Tom Phillips explains that remote base stations are often prohibitively expensive to run because of fuel and transport costs, and that alternative power sources could both cut operating costs and create a local income stream for communities that produce the fuel and maintain the stations.
