Article
A 2006 article in the Electronic Journal on Information Systems in Developing Countries (EJISDC) by Peter A. Kwaku Kyem and Peter Kweku LeMaire of Central Connecticut State University examining Africa’s mobile phone boom and its potential to convert recent digital-divide gains into digital opportunities. The paper argues mobile phones can drive economic growth by widening markets, improving information flow, lowering transaction costs and substituting for scarce rural transport, while also facilitating democratic participation by giving groups communication tools less reliant on government-controlled media.
