Report

‘Mobiles for Development’, a global research study commissioned by UNICEF and prepared by Kojo Boakye, Nigel Scott and Claire Smyth, published October 2010. Based on consultations with UNICEF staff, mobile operators across 14 case-study countries and industry thought leaders, the report finds mobile subscriptions had grown from 720,000 in 2000 to more than 5 billion, with Sub-Saharan Africa the fastest-growing but still lowest-penetration region, and sets out recommendations to help UNICEF engage more effectively with mobile operators to advance children’s development outcomes.
