India’s state-owned Rubber Board runs an SMS ‘Solution’ service that sends rubber farmers and dealers in Kerala real-time domestic and international rubber prices for two rupees per message. Since its January 2009 launch, the service had grown to receive an average of 300 to 400 SMS requests a day, mostly from farmers and dealers in Kerala, and the Board was planning a monthly SMS package to expand the offering further, giving smallholders faster access to pricing information than they could otherwise easily obtain.
