Report
A GSMA Mobile Enabled Community Services report by Michael Nique, ‘Sizing the Opportunity of Mobile to Support Energy and Water Access’, published June 2013, on how mobile connectivity has outpaced electricity and piped water access across emerging markets. It finds GSM mobile coverage reaching up to 84% of the population in developing countries, compared with far slower growth in energy and water access since 2000, and argues the mobile industry’s infrastructure, distribution networks and payment systems put it in a distinctive position to help close that gap for underserved communities.
