An Indian Express report on an SMS awareness campaign launched by Delhi-based NGO CASA and Uttar Pradesh-based NGO Vatsalya to promote birth registration across the state, the first such campaign in UP. Targeting MPs, MLAs, district magistrates, gram pradhans, panchayat secretaries and government teachers across all 71 districts with a series of three text messages, the campaign responded to official statistics showing only 40.3% of UP children receive a birth certificate before age five, among the poorest records in India.
