Report
A University of Leicester press release reports on calculations by space scientist Dr Nigel Bannister, prepared for a Channel 4 Dispatches investigation into mobile costs, showing that sending text messages is many times more expensive per megabyte than downloading data from the Hubble Space Telescope. Bannister worked out that a megabyte of text messages cost around £374.49 at typical UK SMS rates, compared with an estimated £8.85 to £85 per megabyte for transmitting data from Hubble to Earth.
