South African mobile commerce company Swap Mobile launched a service letting customers buy prepaid electricity vouchers directly from their cellphones, adding the feature to its existing Swap Wallet mobile payment tool. After registering for a free Swap Wallet account, any cellphone user, regardless of make, model or network, can dial a short code and follow menu prompts to buy electricity, paying from their Wallet balance or a linked credit card, with the voucher delivered by SMS anywhere in the country at any time, removing the risk of late payment that comes with buying vouchers in person.
