Social Mobile Long Tail

Article

A kiwanja.net blog post by Ken Banks on the ‘long tail’ of social mobile, arguing that despite the hype around mobile-for-good projects, most grassroots NGOs in developing countries remain passive observers rather than active implementers. It sets out three categories of mobile solution — high-cost, high-profile cross-border SMS services; mid-cost custom solutions built by individual non-profits for specific campaigns; and simple, low-tech, appropriate-technology tools with the greatest potential for grassroots NGOs to replicate without specialist help or funding.
