A Seattle Post-Intelligencer report on the launch of ‘Text-a-Crime-Tip’, a Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound programme allowing residents to text crime information anonymously to police, aimed at reaching younger people more comfortable texting than calling. Seattle became the third US city, after Boston and Cincinnati, to launch such a scheme, with organisers noting that consumers sent 363 billion text messages in the previous year, up from 81 billion two years earlier, according to industry body CTIA.
