Voxiva Tamil

Project

Tamil Nadu Health Watch is a phone- and web-based disease surveillance system built by Voxiva to help India’s Tamil Nadu state respond to disease outbreaks in the districts worst hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Launched in May 2005, it lets health workers in even remote areas report disease incidence data in real time, allowing officials to analyse suspected cases, share technical guidance and coordinate a faster response, while linking primary health centres with district experts so that supplies, staff and transport can be allocated more efficiently. Voxiva trained more than 300 doctors at primary health centres to use the bilingual system, which runs over existing mobile, fixed-line and internet infrastructure.
