From the very beginning the work of kiwanja.net has been built on an open approach – free, open-source tools like FrontlineSMS that anyone could download, adapt and use, and ideas shared rather than guarded. That openness has been widely recognised by the technology, social entrepreneurship and design communities, and has brought accolades and awards both to FrontlineSMS itself and to kiwanja’s founder, Ken Banks. Some of that recognition came closer to home, and I now put the same experience to work for organisations in Cambridge.
