This project, called the Rakan (Friend) Community Orientated Programme (COP), allows two-way communication between the police force and its members. Essentially citizens act as look-outs, providing information on crime to the police’s Command Central Centre through its hotline or SMS. Members of the force then respond accordingly. Statistics show that since Rakan COP was launched the city police crime-solving rate had improved tremendously.
