Developing Mobile Internet

The growth of mobile communications has been phenomenal. At the start of the last decade there were just over 10 million mobile cellular telephone subscribers around the world. At the beginning of 2001, this figure had grown almost 70 times to over 700 million. Around one in ten people around the world now owns a mobile phone. This article examines this growth, and how it relates to attempts at providing mobile internet access to mobile users in developing countries
