Economic India

Report

This report provides a case study of the economic benefits generated by the Indian mobile services industry. India was chosen by the GSMA because of its growing importance as a key GSM market, the large potential for future growth of GSM subscribers and, also, because key decisions by the Indian government on the industry have the potential to significantly increase economic and social benefits in India. It focusses on quantifying the supply side benefits of the industry in terms of contribution to gross domestic product (GDP), employment and revenues generated for the Indian government. But the report also provides a qualitative assessment of demand side benefits which the Indian mobile industry generates.
