A press release from Ericsson on joining the United Nations’ Digital Health Initiative, a public-private partnership coordinated through the UN Office for Partnerships to bring mobile health services and telemedicine to rural Africa. Ericsson, the initiative’s technology lead, planned to explore telemedicine, disease surveillance, birth and death registration and mobile learning for health workers, working with partners including the Commonwealth Business Council and Pfizer. It also committed to extending mobile connectivity to more than half a million people at Millennium Village sites in ten African countries, piloting health applications with Columbia University’s Earth Institute.
