Report
A study by the GSMA and Deloitte that benchmarks mobile taxation across 101 countries and assesses its effect on consumer behaviour and government revenues. It finds that consumer and import taxes make up an average of 17.4 per cent of the total cost of mobile ownership, and highlights countries whose tax policies may offer a positive example and others where taxation may hinder mobile penetration. Running to 66 pages, the 2006-2007 review makes the case that high taxes on handsets and services can hold back mobile adoption, particularly in developing countries.
