Slides by Dr Walter Curioso of Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia on mobile health projects supporting people living with HIV in Peru. The main project, Cell-POS, uses SMS reminders for antiretroviral therapy, prevention messages and appointment reminders; focus groups with 26 HIV-positive participants at the Via Libre clinic preferred readable text messages to calls or recorded voice and raised confidentiality concerns, so sensitive terms are avoided. A randomised trial compared the system plus standard care with standard care alone. Related work includes the Cell-PREVEN and PDA-PREVEN projects.
