Project
Mobile Technology for Community Health (MoTeCH) is a Grameen Foundation initiative, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and run with Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and the Ghana Health Service, that uses basic mobile phones to improve antenatal and newborn care in rural Ghana. Pregnant women who register receive SMS or voice messages tailored to their due date and care history, covering pregnancy milestones, nearby health facilities and specific treatments such as tetanus vaccination, and continue receiving guidance on childhood illness and vaccination after birth, while community health workers gain simplified tools for tracking which women and newborns in their area still need care, building on Ghana’s existing CHPS community health programme.
