SMS is now being used to alert the ‘targets’ relentlessly hunted by naxalite action teams out on ‘seek-and-destroy’ missions. Operated by the police, these text messages warn targets of both the estimated time of attack, as well as the probability that it will occur. This service, called Target Alert Message Service (TAMS), can also provide templates giving information on how to handle the potential attack.
